Heart2HeartChallenges #6~H2H6~Technique

This week's Heart 2 Heart Challenge was to pick a favorite technique and share it. Well, I used the 'shaving cream technique' and although this is the first time I have tried this particular technique, I did have fun with it and it is now a favorite of mine. It brought back memories of when I used to play with my dad's shaving cream when I was a kid without getting caught wasting it. Although it's a messy technique, it was fun and I will definitely use it again.
Here's the details on this technique so you can try it, too.
You will need:
Shaving Cream (cheap works)
Reinkers (usually 3 colors works best)
Foam plate, or other kind of shallow container large enough for the size of cardstock you will be using
Cardstock (regular or textured)
Something to swirl the reinkers around in the shaving cream...such as a popsicle stick, plastic fork, and hair picks work good!
Something to scrape off the shaving cream from the cardstock...perhaps a ruler, piece of cardboard or other straight edge item.
Be prepared to get messy!
Spray shaving cream on your shallow container or foam plate and spread it as smoothly as possible. Be sure it is larger than the piece of cardstock you are working with. (Don't overdo it! The first time I tried this, I had WAY too much shaving cream and wasted a lot).
Add several drops of reinker colors over the shaving cream.
Swirl the reinker over the surface of the cream.
Press cardstock into the shaving cream then peel it back and carefully scrape the shaving cream from the cardstock and discard or put it back into the container. Set cardstock aside and reuse the shaving cream for another piece of cardstock or discard it. You can add more reinker if needed to achieve other cool results.
Here's a close-up of the Glitz Glitter Glue I applied to the centers of the flowers, just to add a bit of bling.

  1. Fun! I used this shaving cream technique for fingerpainting with my kindergarten class years ago--with food coloring AND I forgot to have them put on their painting smocks! Talk about messy! Their moms were NOT happy with me! But it was really fun!
