December - the sad month

December has always been a very sad month for my dad's side of the family. With the exception of one of his brothers, every immediate family member has passed away during the month of December. Many times through the years, my dad used to say that if he made it through till January, he'd be alive for another year and he'd be happy!

Well, it is with a heavy heart that I tell you my wonderful 82 year old dad passed away on December 26th after just 5 days in the hospital. We are so saddened as it was very unexpected. He died on the same date that his mother did 20 years ago and he was born on her 18th birthday, the oldest of nine children. How very strange that he was born on her birthday and died on the anniversary of her death. But that's the way things roll in this family.

As sad as I feel right now about the loss of my dad who was such a kind, gentle, loving man who was liked/loved by many, I am thankful he is no longer suffering. Not the type to complain much about anything, we never knew he was suffering so much. He never told us how bad it really was so as not to worry us. That's my dad!

Now Dad is pain-free, enjoying a big bowl of ice cream or a good glass of wine, or maybe both, or possibly even doing some fly-fishing because he loved that so much but hadn't been able to do it for the past several years, listening to his favorite classical music while being reunited with his parents and several siblings and most likely partying like crazy with them. They loved a great party! Party on, Dad! I love you and miss you - until we meet again!

Your loving daughter,

Taking a break.....

.....for now. I received bad news about my dad and have not been in the mood to continue with my listing. After things have settled down, I will try to complete the lists and start posting again but until then your thoughts and prayers are much appreciated. I need them to stay strong for my dad. I am so very sad right now.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I'll be back!

'Tis the Season to Sparkle & Shine

This week's challenge over at the Heart2Heart blog is a Sparkle & Shine challenge using Ruby, Juniper & Slate with a little sparkle thrown in. Check it out here and join in the last challenge for the year.

I will not be returning to the design team ;-( as I feel I'm in need of a break but I wanted to at least participate in this last challenge before saying goodbye - for now.

I created another one of those cool little mini albums - made with just one sheet of cardstock or double-sided pattern paper - that are so much fun to make. It's so hard to get good photos of all the fun elements included in the album - you really have to see it to appreciate it - but I hope you get the feel for it.

Supplies used are all Close To My Heart:
X7176B - Sparkle & Shine paper pack
X7176C - Sparkle & Shine Complements
Z2170 - Ruby ink
Z2165 Juniper ink
Z2173 - Slate ink
Z1263 - Bitty Sparkles
Z1751 & Z1701 Baker's Twine
Z1686 - Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge
C1278 - Library Cards stamp set (retired)
G1063 - Frosted Workshop on the Go stamp set
Bind-it-All machine
Retired ribbon and metals

Front cover with a little sparkle on the tree if you look closely

If you'd like to participate in the last challenge of the year, start creating something with Ruby, Juniper and Slate colors plus a little sparkle then share a link to your artwork with us here. Be sure to use mostly CTMH products in your artwork or your link will be removed. Sorry, them's the rules! And that's the last time this year you'll hear me say that! ;-)

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you totally enjoy every moment of the upcoming holidays! Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Scrampin'!

My list for day 13 of the December 30 Days of Lists challenge. At my age, I don't get real excited about too many things anymore and I could actually think of a couple more things to add as I'm typing this but it's too late to add them to my finished list so this is it!

I get excited when.....

December 30 Days of Lists - Day 12

My day 12 list for the 30 Days of Lists challenge.

Places I went this year:

  1. Shady Maple Farm Market (several times)
  2. Syracuse, NY for a wedding (in February, no less!)
  3. Ephrata, PA to the Green Dragon Farmer's Market
  4. Philadelphia for the Broad St. Run
  5. Harris Hill for family reunion
  6. Eldridge Park to relive my childhood :)
  7. Hometown of Elmira, NY (several times)
  8. Conowingo Dam, MD to watch the Bald Eagles
  9. Lancaster, PA for the bike club Christmas party
This is my longest list so far which really surprised me since I didn't think that I go out very often but I guess I do! I ran out of room to put the number 12 that I was going to use - the one that matches all the others I've used so far- so I had to use a different one. But I like it since there's no right or wrong way to make a list!

Happy listing!

December 30 Days of Lists - Days 7 & 8

I'm a little behind on my lists. I had a somewhat busy weekend and by the time I finished my lists yesterday, the daylight was gone and not good for taking photos. Even if I'd had them done before dark, it was such a cloudy, snowy day - a dusting to an inch turned into 7 inches! - that they wouldn't have been very good anyway. So here are days 7 & 8 in one post.

Day 7 - What I'm going to remember about today:
  1. always and forever will remember the bombing of Pearl Harbor even though I wasn't alive then
  2. how much I dislike shopping malls!
  3. the great time we had at the Lancaster Bike Club Christmas party
  4. the surprise order on my website!
Day 8 - On my movie-watching list:
  1. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
  2. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (cartoon)
  3. Elf
  4. The Santa Clause
I am not a movie-watcher (I can't sit still long enough nor can I justify the expense or time wasted) except for this time of year when there are a few favorite Christmas movies I love to watch.

Thanks for stopping by! Happy listing!

Moving On

This week's challenge at the Heart2Heart blog is all about 'moving on'. I interpret this as something that is interactive or has moving parts so here is my creation.

I created this baby mini album as a gift for my son & his wife on the birth of their new baby boy. (Yea, they finally have a boy!) It has lots of interactivity on the inside - including pages that open, pockets with pull-out tags for journaling on one side and a photo on the other and even a couple flip flaps.

Since taking these pictures of the album, I have added lots of photos inside. It was amazing to see how many fit in this little album. I haven't counted them yet since I haven't fully completed the album but trust me, it holds a LOT!

30 Days of Lists is Cool!

These past few days I have been having so much fun as a lister. What's a lister, you ask? Well, it's someone who makes a list every day after receiving a prompt from the ladies over at the 30 Days of Lists website. This is my first time as a lister and I am so happy to have joined in. You'll be happy, too, when you see how much fun it can be.

Hurry on over to the 30 Days of Lists website for all the details. It's not too late to join in on listing for December. Be sure to check out my previous posts of the lists I have created so far for inspiration. Just scroll down to view them.

Thanks for stopping by today and happy listing!

December 30 Days of Lists - Day 6

Call me silly for possibly trying to relive my youth but here is my list for today's prompt - on my reading list. I didn't actually write all this in the journal but felt the need to elaborate a bit on my list in this post.
  1. Dr. Zhivago - saw the movie for the first time when I was maybe 16 years old and have seen it many times since & never get tired of it but I really need to read the book.
  2. Just Mrs. Goose - I read every. single. one. of the Mrs. Goose book series over & over & over again when I was a kid. I even still have a copy of my Summer Reading List from 1964 and 9 of the 10 books listed is a Mrs. Goose book! Ha!
  3. Nancy Drew Mysteries - I am sad to say that I don't have any of my original books but will purchase new printings from time to time.
  4. The Christmas Box - A book that we have had for many years but one I do not remember ever having read so this is the time of year to read it.
Thanks for stopping by today! Happy listing!

December 30 Days of Lists - Day 5

For some reason this one took me awhile. There have been so many traditions in my entire lifetime starting from when I was a child on up to adulthood and through my own children's lives but most have gone by the wayside as I grew up and my children grew up and left home. I guess that's why this list was tough for me because it's just my husband and I here most of the time as all family members live out of town except for our daughter so we really don't have too many traditions anymore. Surprisingly though, these 5 did come to mind!
  1. Celebrate birthdays with dinner out
  2. Always cut down our own Christmas tree
  3. Lasagna for Christmas Day dinner
  4. Take down Christmas tree & decorations on New Year's Day
  5. Head out to Lancaster County on winter Saturday mornings.
Thanks for looking! Happy listing!

December 30 Days of Lists - Day 3

When I saw today's prompt for 30 Days of Lists, This is the only time of year I.....I thought this was going to be a tough one for me but the more I thought about it, it was actually quite easy!

This is the only time of year I....

  • wish my children were little again!
  • wish I still lived in my hometown where family is
  • bake pistachio cookies & make fudge
  • actually look forward to watching TV (Christmas shows)
  • start looking forward to a new year!
Thanks for looking! Happy scrampin'!

December 30 Days of Lists - Day 2

Here's my day 2 entry: Around my home....
  • plants to be watered
  • hunters across the road
  • stacks of unread magazines
  • a grandfather clock in need of repair
  • cluttered pantry
  • many birds at the feeder
  • dishes to put away
I decided to include a photo collage of my list today except for the birds. When I went to take a pic, they had already flown away.

Thanks for stopping by today! Happy scrampin'!
