The Awesome Ladies Project Sketch Challenge for February

Last month I signed up to join the Awesome Ladies Project group (click here to read about this project created by Kristin Tweedale) but haven't really participated much yet until today. Although when signing up I knew I'd probably not be available the last Friday night of each month to join in, which is when the members take 2 hours out of their Friday night to be creative and chat + share their creations online, but it sounded like something I just might like to be a part of. I usually go to bed early on Friday nights for an early Saturday morning in winter then my Friday nights are busy in warmer weather the rest of the year with our Friday Night Fires so when will I actually participate in this awesome group? I'm not really sure but whenever circumstances will allow, I suppose. So we shall see.
But without further ado, here's my take on the sketch for this month's Awesome Ladies Project challenge. I chose to make a page for my art journal which I have just recently begun playing with. I am having lots of fun with it, too! Quite simple page really but I like it. I hope you do, too!

Supplies used:
  • Ali Edwards Story Stamp - AM/PM kit (good morning sunshine)
  • Artist's Loft watercolor paints from Michael's
  • G1087 Brushed workshop stamp set from Close to my Heart (happy & my heart is filled with sunshine)
  • A1165 Capture the Day stamp set from Close to my Heart (It's a beautiful day)
  • D1627 Your Own Kind of Wonderful stamp set from Close to my Heart (butterfly)
  • X7194B Hopscotch paper pack from Close to my Heart (arrows cut with Cricut Artbooking cartridge)
  • A selfie of me! ;) (my Nikon D3200 DSLR camera)
If you'd like to learn more about Kristin and her Awesome Ladies Project, you can check it out here.

Thanks for stopping by today. Make it a good one!

Getting My Messy On Week 2

Hello! Hello! How is everyone doing with this brutally cold weather most of us here in the states are experiencing? I totally dislike it - I seriously don't know anyone who does like it - and have pretty much been hibernating all winter. I venture out about one day a week for the essentials like wine and oh yea a bit of food, too, but for the most part I am housebound by choice and having fun being crafty. I hope you are able to find something to occupy your indoor time as well so you don't experience cabin fever or go stir crazy!

As I mentioned in previous posts, I am participating in the 'Get Messy Art Journal' challenge for February-March and it's all about the love this time around. Love of things and love of people, which pretty much covers a lot to love, doesn't it? One thing's for sure though, I don't love winter!! But there are so many other things I do love - art journaling being one of them right now and oh so much fun so here is what I completed thus far for the second week of the challenge.
The prompts I followed on this page were to incorporate an e e cummings poem in your artwork plus use some stitching. I planned to do some real stitching on this but was afraid I'd mess it up so in the end I decided to do some faux stitching instead around the edges of the cotton inkjet printable fabric (that I recently discovered in my stash that I had bought a very long time ago) where I printed out the poem. I still have to write the names of my family members that I love on my page yet and then it's done.
Here's a double page spread where I list 10 of my husband's qualities that I love about him. The prompt was to list 100 things or 100 people you love or 100 reasons you love something or someone or as many things that you love about one thing or one person if you can't think of 100. Well, if I really took the time and put my mind to it, I'm pretty sure I could come up with 100 things I love about my husband but I chose to just focus on 10 of his best qualities and call it done! I had no problem coming up with 100 things I love so that's a list for another page.

If you're an art journaler or have never done this art form before, consider joining in the 'getmessyartjournal' challenge. It's fun, relaxing and therapeutic plus you just might discover something about yourself that you never knew. Now, wouldn't that be cool?

Thanks for stopping by today! Stay warm wherever you are or cool if you're down south of the equator - you lucky duck!

Happy scrampin'!

March 30 Days of Lists Sneak Peek

It's getting closer! Are you ready yet? I think I am, I think I am, I think I am! Ha ha! I say that because I am notorious for changing my mind on how I want to proceed with just about anything! I always think I have it all thought out and planned exactly how I want a project to look going forward but always seem to come up with an alternative plan. I don't always follow through on that plan though. Most times I come right back around to my original idea and tell myself I should just stick with that one from the very beginning but I do like to explore other options just for the sake of saying I tried! But without further ado, here is a sneak peek of how I am capturing my lists in this round of 30 Days of Lists.

The top title card is a free download from Meg, who is one of the sponsors of 30 Days of Lists, when you register for the challenge. I made the bottom card with some stamps from Close to my Heart that you can find here. I am in love with this stamp set! There are so many possibilities of flower combinations to create with it + right now it is helping me to get through these past few brutally cold winter days.

Here are a few of the journaling cards, which are also free downloads when you register. The prompts have been blocked out so as not to spoil it for those who look forward to surprises each day in their inbox. I usually prefer to be surprised myself but this time around I decided to take advantage of the free printables and when you do that, the surprise is spoiled. But I'm okay with that for this time. I printed the cards on 4 different colors of cardstock from Close to my Heart just to add some variety 'cause I get bored easily and besides that's just how I roll!
Here's a few more cards waiting for my lists. As you can see, I printed some 3" x 4" and some 4" x 6" - again I wanted some variety and to keep the boredom at bay.
And here is the last page. I wanted to keep the last page similar to the first so I chose to print these cards on white cardstock as well. I again stamped some of those flowers - don't you just love them? - on a 3" x 4" card to fill in the one pocket to balance out the page.

Okay, that's it for the sneak peek. If this round of listing sounds fun to you, head on over here to get yourself registered and I'll see you on March 1st!

Happy listing!

Getting Ready for 30 Days of Lists

I'm getting ready for the March edition of the 30 Days of Lists challenge! How about you? Are you going to join in the fun this time around?

I haven't quite decided how I will create my lists yet but I do plan to use this 6 x 8 album from Studio Calico. It's been sitting on a shelf in my scrap room for a few weeks now screaming at me to use it so this will be the home for my lists this time around and maybe for the next round or two of listing as well since there will be plenty of room left. I have tons of page protectors inside. ;)

If you'd like to join in on this round of fun listing, go here to register. It's only $10 and it gets you some free downloadable printables with all the prompts already printed on them in case you like to plan ahead and don't wish to be surprised each day. But, you do not have to use those printables. Sticky notes, journaling cards, journals or even mini albums make excellent listing surfaces! It doesn't matter what you use as the whole point is to just create a list. Your lists can be typed or handwritten, very simple or very creative - whatever floats your boat! Just remember to have fun!

I plan to share my lists here - although probably every few days instead of every day - so check back after March 1st to see how I am creating my lists. If you decide to join in, please let me know! I'd love to know how you are listing.

Okay, time to finish getting ready for 30 Days of Lists. Have a great day and happy listing!

You take the time to create your beautiful scrapbook layouts that you hope will last a lifetime and then some, right? Start with a great quality album and you won't be replacing it anytime soon. Trust me on this!
Head on over to my website and click on the SHOP link > Albums & Accessories to see the beautiful albums that Close to my Heart has to offer. If you have any questions, please give me a shout! Offer expires February 28 or while supplies last so don't hesitate if you want to take advantage of this great deal!

Also want to mention, I may be dropping from Close to my Heart at the end of March so if there's any products you really, really want consider ordering soon. If enough of you do order, you may very well help to keep me afloat with CTMH so I thank you in advance!

Have a great day and happy scrampin'!

A Happy Hello

Hello! I want to share a card I made yesterday using the February Stamp of the Month set from Close to my Heart. This is only the second time I've played with this set - the first time was a couple days ago while getting my messy on in my art journal - but it certainly won't be the last! I am in love with this set. So many possibilities for some beautiful artwork - don't you agree? My head is spinning imagining how many different flowers can be made with this set! Click on the image to get your own set for $17.95 OR for just $5.00 with an additional $50.00 order.

Using VersaMark ink and clear embossing powder, I stamped and embossed the stems and flowers first on the white background. Then I used sponge daubers to color in the flowers and parts of the background. The embossed images resist the ink but it helps to bring out the images even more by rubbing lightly over them with a tissue to remove any residual ink.
Supplies used are all Close to my Heart:
S1502 A Happy Hello
1385 White Daisy cardstock
Z2033 Paper Fundamentals
Z2153 Sweet Leaf ink
Z2193 Cotton Candy ink
Z2105 Black ink
Z2194 Sky ink (no longer available)
Z891 Versamark ink
Z726 Sponge Daubers
Z2088 Ranger Clear Embossing Powder
Z555 Craft Heater
piece of leftover Hollyhock twill ribbon

I hope you have enjoyed my card today. If you'd like to purchase any of the supplies I used, feel free to click on any of the links above or here to go to my website to peruse other awesome products as well.

Thanks for stopping by! Happy scrampin'!

Getting My Messy On - Part 2

Hey everyone! Since my last post I have been playing more with inks, paints, stencils and stamps in many different ways and wanted to share some of my artwork with you again.
Using the same free printable for the Get Messy Art Journal challenge printed in a smaller format than the one in my last post, I stamped and inked and embellished to my heart's content and made it into the cover of my art journal. I LOVE it!

Here is a page that I created using one of the free prompts before the actual Get Messy challenge began on February 5th. The prompt was to choose a word that summed up this past year and use a page from a magazine as the background for your word. Well, I used a page from a book, not a magazine, but that's okay as there really are no set rules except to be artsy and have fun!
Had fun with these 'before' pages. Love these distressed paint colors from Tim Holtz - tumbled glass, broken china & bundled sage. I also used a couple of his stencils on these pages. The heart mask is an old one from Heidi Swapp.
Same pages as above - sorry the lighting is bad on this one - 'after' adding some journaling. I kind of followed challenge #2 of the Get Messy Love prompts but in my own way. I really struggle with finding the right words when I want them + I change my mind all the time about what I want to say so the journaling part of 'art journaling' is the toughest part for me. I really LOVE how this turned out though.
A couple more pages made while playing with some masks that I created with the Close to my Heart Cricut Artbooking cartridge and my Cricut machine. Not sure what to write on these yet but eventually it'll come to me.
I really, really LOVE these 2 pages! Like so many other artsy people out there, I am in LOVE with gold & silver inks, paints & papers. How can you not LOVE the shimmer & shine of silver & gold? They are both gorgeous in my opinion.
Last but not least, here's a couple pages from my 6 x 8 handbook album from Studio Calico. I have a 12 x 12 album from Close to my Heart that I mostly use for my everyday life photos but sometimes I have extra photos left over that never found their way into that larger album or to one of the many scrapbook pages I create so this is their home. It just doesn't seem right to throw them away.

As you can see on these pages, I got messy and created my own 4 x 6 title/journaling cards using inks and paints. I even cut one of them into 2 x 2 squares to fit into the page protector on the left side along with my smaller photos. I LOVE how they add my own special touch to the pages as opposed to the mass produced cards I have a ton of - like the ones on the right page below. Don't get me wrong, I like those mass-produced cards for the most part but when you can create your own - well, that's just awesome!

Many of the stamps and inks I create with are from Close to my Heart. If you would like to check them out closer or have never seen any of the wonderful products that they offer, click here and enjoy!

Well, that's all for today folks! Sure hope you have enjoyed my artwork and that maybe I inspired you to get messy, too! Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Getting My Messy On

Hey everyone! I am so excited about some new creative endeavors on the horizon for me! I have been dabbling a bit in art journaling recently and really don't have much confidence in my ability to produce awesome mixed media type artwork so I have joined in on the #getmessyartjournal challenge. Yea! It starts February 5th so if you'd like to join in and learn some great techniques for your own art journaling, go here to register. It's FREE! AND you can download this really cool project - also FREE - to play with before the challenge starts. Well, it won't look exactly like this because this is how I got messy with mine but yours will just say the LET'S GET MESSY part.

As if that class isn't enough, I have also signed up for the Color Theory class over at Studio Calico! Yep! I'm a crazy, crafty lady who's just a bit obsessed with playing with inks, stamps, stencils and paints!! I can never do just one class at a time - I must do at least two, sometimes more! Now I don't have any of the Color Theory paints but I imagine any paint will do the same thing and I have plenty of other brands. This class doesn't start until March 3rd I believe but if you sign up real soon you'll receive a bonus kit for FREE while supplies last so don't hesitate if this is something you're interested in.

While I'm at it, I might as well share some other recent projects with you since I forget to do it as soon as I'm done creating them. I'm so bad about that! Hope you enjoy my artwork and get inspired to create some of your own.

Here's a few tags I made while trying out some new techniques. As you can see I used stencils, inks, stamps and paints - my favorite things to play with lately!

Here's a layout I made during the Start Fresh event over at Simple Scrapper last month. This pretty much sums up my 'why' for being involved in the awesome hobby of scrapbooking that I love so much! As the title states, I am an insanely obsessed keeper of memories and it is oh so true!

And another layout of my one & only grandson - isn't he too stinkin' cute? - using a sketch from Simple Scrapper. The papers which are no longer available are from Close to my Heart and the stamps are from Ali Edwards' Story Stamps and Heidi Swapp's Hello Beautiful collection.

I used the Heartstrings papers from Close to my Heart for this layout. If you really like these papers, you need to get over to my website to get them before they're gone as they're only available until the end of March. I also used some stamps and products from Ali Edwards' Story Stamp kit.

Ok, I guess that's it for today. I don't want to overload you so I'll leave you for now. Thanks for stopping by! Have a scrampin' good day!

~Carol
