Doing Something Different

I'm trying something different this year. For the past 3 years, I have had a Project/Picture My Life-style album where I documented my mostly boring everyday life. But hey, it's my life even if it is boring. The first two years I pretty much stuck to 12 x 12 albums with pocket pages, throwing in the occasional full 12 x 12 scrapbook layout to feature a longer story I wanted to tell.

Then the third year I tried a 9 x 12 album and only went with it for about half the year as I realized I really missed the larger size pages because I take so many photos. So I switched back over to a 12 x 12 album for the second half of the year and I'm so glad I did!

I also had tried going with a monthly recap as opposed to a weekly format but found I missed the weekly creativity so after just a couple months I went back to weekly. I did skip a couple, maybe three weeks throughout the year due to various reasons but I was just fine with that. Life happens and sometimes gets in the way of play time.

So for 2017 I decided to try something quite different. I'm just going to do whatever I feel like doing! Sounds pretty broad yet daring, right? Well, this past year I've finally learned how to use Photoshop Elements 13, thanks to two awesome, very well-known ladies in the scrapbooking biz - Ali Edwards & Cathy Zielske - so I wanted to try some digital/hybrid layouts for my albums to throw in among the traditional layouts + pocket pages. And I wanted to try to use up my huge scrapbook paper stash in the process. Win-win in my opinion!

I signed up for Cathy Z's 'Scrapbook Your Year' online course this year to try using some of my newly learned Photoshop Elements skills on all the templates she offers so here is what I've done so far with my 2017 Project/Picture My Life album....
Title page of my 2017 album. I love that I'm keeping this album pretty simple just by adding a bit of washi tape or embellishments from my stash onto a 12 x 12 sheet of pattern paper to which I've adhered an 8 1/2" x 11" photo collage I've printed from a digital template included in the Scrapbook Your Year class. Dotted paper is from Close To My Heart.
First page features photos from the first week of January. Very simple! I may end up adding some embellishments yet, just haven't decided on which ones. And again, the dotted paper is the backside of the black dotted paper from the title page.
Week 2 page is quite simple as well and again probably could use some embellishing. I am loving the digital templates for this class as I just don't have the patience with Photoshop Elements to figure it out for myself. I truly appreciate Cathy Zielske when it comes to her expertise in digital scrapbooking.
A full 12 x 12 layout I made with bits and pieces from an Ali Edwards story kit. The background paper is the backside of the paper from the previous layout. Trying to utilize my papers in the best way while also using up my stash.
The background for this layout, which is week 3 for January, is a piece of paper from the Oh Deer kit from Close To My Heart along with embellishments from the kit.
More paper and embellishments from Oh Deer for week 4. I am so, so happy to be using up my stash! There are so many new papers I want to buy but I am trying hard to use up some old stuff first. I think I'm doing a pretty good job so far.

Okay, that's it for now! I hope you've enjoyed seeing the first few pages of my 2017 album. Stay tuned for more pages coming soon.

Happy scrampin'!
