Love Swiss Dots!

I am in love with the new Z4232 Swiss Dot embossing folder from Close To My Heart. The folder measures 5 1/4" x 7 1/4" so it's perfect for creating 5" x 7" cards as well as the standard size of 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" which seems to be the preferred size for cards. It may be a bit difficult to see the stitched line that separates the dotted area from the blank area but this feature makes this embossing folder even more versatile as you can adjust the size of each area by trimming one end of your cardstock or both.
Here are three cards I recently made with this awesome folder.
Just above the striped b&w strip is where the stitched line is but I know you can't see it in the photo. You also probably can't tell but the sentiment is embossed in gold to coordinate with the ribbon. I also used the Z3316 Gold Shimmer Brush on the butterfly but I'm afraid that's not really visible either. Sorry!
Again the stitched line is just above the b&w striped piece and I think you can see it better in this photo. The sentiment is stamped on an oval cut with the Z4187 Stitched Ovals thin cuts dies. The strip of hearts is cut from a set of thin cuts dies no longer available and not wanting to waste the tiny hearts cut from it, I added them to the top part of the card.
This card, I think, is my favorite of the three. It's very simple but looks so elegant, don't you think? Just below the stitched line, I added a scalloped border made using a die from the Z4241 Decorative Borders thin cuts. The circles were cut with Z3318 Basic Circles and Z4181 Stitched Circles. The sentiment and the small leaf images, which were stamped with Z2825 Mink ink, are both from older stamp sets that are no longer available.

Thanks for stopping in today! I hope you like my cards. If you have any questions, please give me a shout. To shop for these and other great products from Close To My Heart, click here.

Sponging and Droplet Technique

Hello all!

Recently the Close To My Heart blog shared a sponging and droplet technique that I really liked so thought I'd try it for myself. You can see the blog post here. Here's a card I made using this technique. You may have to enlarge the photo to see the droplets but they are there.

The raised circles were created using the Z4245 Texture Paste through a stencil I made with one of the Cricut images from the Z3500 Artistry cartridge. The large stamped circles and small dots are from D1784 Colorful Texture stamp set, the smaller circles were created using the end of a waterbrush tapped onto an ink pad then pressed onto the card and the sentiments are from S1901 Card Captions, which was January's stamp of the month. Tied a pretty ribbon around it and it was done.
Hope you like my card and it inspires you to use the Sponging and Droplet technique for yourself.

Birds in Winter scrapbook layout

My husband and I are huge bird lovers so we always provide various foods that they like in order to attract as many different species to our backyard as possible. And do we ever get a lot of wonderful birds to entertain us! They sure do help us survive cabin fever during long cold winters.

I printed a few photos of our Bluebirds, Red-bellied Woodpeckers and even a very unwelcome Cooper's Hawk hiding in the apple tree next door waiting to pounce on one of our little birds, a couple days ago after we'd received about an inch and a half of snow the previous night and I wanted to create a scrapbook layout while the moments were fresh in my mind.

I take tons of bird photos then never print them out to use on layouts and I need to stop that! I am lucky enough to have a pretty decent point & shoot camera that takes some really awesome photos of our birds. It also helps that the feeder station is not too far from the house so I can safely take photos from a warm spot inside during this brutal cold.

I used some currently available items as well as several older products from Close To My Heart on this layout and I'm so happy about that. I buy all this stuff then don't use it up so it's a wonderful feeling when it disappears from my stash. I'm sure some of you can relate, right?

Products used that are still available:
9043 Make It From Your Heart - Vol. 3 (I used pattern 24)
Z2823 Goldrush ink
Z2848 Sapphire ink
Z4182 Stitched Hearts thin cuts dies
Z4304 Silver Sequins

Products used that are no longer available but you may already have in your stash:
X9000 Seasons Mix-in papers
Z3254 Enchantment Fundamentals papers
D1772 Documented Scrapbooking stamp set
C1584 Feathers  stamp set
B1269 Journaling Jots stamp set
Z3377 Thoughtful Bird stamp set + thin cuts dies

That's it folks! Hope you enjoy my layout and that it inspires you to scrap the birds that visit your backyard in winter or just to scrapbook some favorite photos if you're stuck inside right now due to the cold weather.

Another January SOTM card

Hello, hello!

Sharing another card I made today for a friend's sister who is fighting cancer. So sad to hear! I hate hearing about anyone who has to fight this nasty health issue. It's not an easy fight to win and knowing how she is struggling, maybe a card can help cheer her up if only for a moment.

I love the D1815 Bunches of Love stamp set that was in the previous Close To My Heart catalog and have used it quite a bit on handmade cards. The watercolor effect is very trendy these days and I think that's why I love it so much. I also used the January stamp of the month S1901 Card Captions set (which is only available till January 31 so if you want one, get it now) for the "Get Well Soon" sentiment.

I stamped the flower image in black archival ink first then stamped the inside of the main flower in Raspberry ink. I then used watercolor pencils and a clear shimmer brush to color in the smaller flowers and the leaves. Pretty cool technique but unfortunately you really can't see the shimmer it creates in my photo. I then tied a piece of black shimmer ribbon around the white piece and added a bow then called it done. I hope my friend's sister likes my card and that it cheers her up for a moment or two. Prayers will help, too, so if you can, please say one for her.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a good day!

Just A Note

I love how the acrylic stamp sets from Close To My Heart are flexible and can bend to fit where you want to stamp the image. Take this card for example...I wanted to use the phrase "Just A Note" on the white stitched oval sentiment piece but since it wouldn't fit as all one stamped image, I bent it around a clear acrylic block then stamped first the word 'just' then the words 'a note' and it worked perfectly!
The stamp set with that phrase, as well as all the others you see below, is the current stamp of the month set from Close To My Heart called S1901 Card Captions but it's only available until January 31 so get yours before you forget! You can purchase it for $18.95 (USD) + shipping & tax or get it for just $5.00 with an additional $50.00 purchase. Click here to shop.

Lots of retired stamp sets for sale!

Hey everyone!

So sorry I haven't updated my blog in awhile but I've been extremely busy purging and cleaning out and organizing my house all month and just haven't found the time to post. I hope to update you soon on all things Close To My Heart but in the meantime, while I've been in my cleaning mood, I found a ton of retired Close To My Heart stamp sets I decided to part with and thought I'd give you all a chance to grab some if you're interested.

A-size sets are $3, B - $5, C - $6, D - $8, E & double sets are $12. Shipping - US only - for one set starts at $4.00 and goes up depending on what state it's going to. For each additional set add $1. Most sets are lightly loved, some more so, but all sets work perfectly. They are also from a pet free/smoke free home. Please let me know if you're interested in any. I accept PayPal and money through Messenger.

Thanks and have a great day!
